Mokuro vs Saya

Post by NMH on Wed Dec 30, 2015 7:18 pm

A light rain fell upon the grass covered forest floor, causing each individual blade of leaf to shine when struck by the sun's rays. Untamed insects sprawled along the dirt and grass, quickly scurrying back to their empty homes in search of shelter from the coming storm. The wind howled against the towering trees, shaking their leaves until they nearly fell off. Foxes and bears alike could be seen sheltering themselves under the tallest trees, putting aside their thousand year differences for a few moments. Judging by the reaction of the wildlife, a massive storm was coming -- and soon.

In the distance, a man of tall stature and unnatural simplicity could be seen with his legs crossed and hands together. Even to the untrained eye, it was obvious that he was in the middle of intense meditation. The rain that fell on his face did not startle him. The now-blistering winds did not affect him in the slightest. He was clearly someone of strong mental fortitude.

After a few hours had passed, the man stood up. The birds that had made their way onto his shoulders flew away with great haste, and a single butterfly fluttered off of his forehead and into the forest depths. The man stretched his limbs mightily and inhaled a great breath, taking in the beauty of the nature surrounding him.

In the midst of his stretch, Mokuro sensed a slight disturbance in the forest's natural movement. Someone is here... he thought. He looked around for a few moments before calling out, knowing that his bellowing voice would fall on prying ears. "Reveal yourself!"

Saya was lingering just out of sight. She was standing beneath the out stretched branches of some ancient oak, the wide trunk and countless branches towering upwards into the overcast sky, blotting out stars and moon as effectivly as any cloud cover could. She could smell the storm on the horizon, and like so many before it she had come to greet it. She had come to commune, come to dance, to play, to savor the sensation of pounding drops and driving wind. Thunderbird was alive inside of her, its voice rumbling like thunder in her mind's ears, whispering of excitement and the destruction to come.

She was not on edge, but she was eager. She was eager to vent, to release her pent up energy, to run and jump between the branches while the storm raged around her. She had thought she was alone, until the sound of a lone voice cut through the serenity of the approaching storm. It took her off guard, though it would not register in her face. No, her face was hidden. Stepping out from beneath the trees the haze of moonlight filtering through the clouds would alight on her form, and her form was one that stood out easily enough.

She was clad from head to toe in armored plates, small but thick scales covering her like some manner of dragon skin. They sparkled from the light rain and the feint light they were catching. Atop her head was a broad, dome shaped helmet which was keeping her head dry, and even in the faint light the large symbol of Joki no Sato was easy enough to spot on it. Below the helmet she wore a mask, a blank and featureless face on it matching the placid expression she frequently wore. She was an odd sight, but it was her spear which often times drew attention to her.

Her spear was seven feet tall, 18 inches of it composed of a shining, double edged blade that seemed more dangerous than the person holding it. Her identity was secure, from such a distance it was even hard to tell if the diminutive figure was male or female. The only thing certain was that she was there, and she was making no attempt to hide. She remains where she is, standing in plain sight and only turning to face the direction the voice had come from. She would return no greeting herself.

The rustling of the hidden individual among trees made a great disturbance in the forests. Nearby wildlife was instantly alerted as they scurried away from the source of the noise. In just a few seconds, the serenity of the forest was absolutely destroyed. Mokuro sighed as he was quite enjoying the silence and stillness. He strained his eyes to see further out, unwilling to use his Byakugan until he knew what the incoming potential danger was.

Mokuro gripped Ryu Jingu tightly as the shadow of the stranger began to form along the ground. Hastily, he drew the staff of legend from his back and stuck it firmly into the ground. He instilled a premeditated burst of chakra into the grey staff just in case the incoming stranger proved to be an enemy. He waited patiently as the shadow grew larger and larger, casting a looming overcast on the ground.

The figure that would appear was nothing short of shocking. A human covered head to toe in a plethora of armor stood before him. The stranger's face was covered as well, making it impossible to tell if the individual was a man or woman. A perplexed look made its way onto Mokuro's face and he almost couldn't help but laugh at the over abundance of protection the stranger wore. "Well... You're a strange one, aren't you?" Mokuro scoffed, hoping to get a rise out of the short, armor covered stranger. "You've disturbed the forest, you know. I was enjoying it quite a bit..."

Saya remained passive as ever, almost motionless in her response. She did not speak, she did not wave, she did not even lift her spear. Indeed the blank expression of her mask was a perfect reflection of the pale skin beneath it, however it was the only thing he had to go off of. She takes no steps forward nor backwards, and instead just stares in silence at the stranger.

She was not trying to be weird, not trying to be creepy, in truth she was just trying to ignore the constant, excited rumbling of the bird in her heart. The coming storm had Thunderbird in a strange state, the prospect of being so close to his natural element working him up into a frenzy. He wanted to attack, to let loose with peels of lighting and cracks of thunder, but Saya wouldn't have it. Excited or not, Saya was a creature of honor, and picking fights with strangers was never high on her to do list.

That is not to say it never happened, even now she was being in some ways disrespectful. Her lack of social graces kept her constantly on the edge of offense, always a word or look, even a gesture away from angering those who were more well adjusted, more used to speaking with other humans. She just stares blankly without so much as an apology for apparently disturbing the man, though in her mind it was he who was the unwanted intruder.

Mokuro sneered widely. The silence from the stranger was palpable, almost disrespectful. While it was impossible to tell by the stranger's appearance, it was awfully clear that there was an age disparity by the lack of manners the individual possessed. "You know, I don't care who you are, but you should respond when people speak to you." The Hyuuga gripped his staff and let out a small laugh. It was almost diabolical yet warm in its sound. The laugh itself was incredibly sincere, though its intent was rather malicious.

Seconds passed and Mokuro got even more impatient. While he was usually a serene and calm in his demeanor, something about this stranger bothered him tremendously. He couldn't tell what it was yet, but he intended to find out. "I guess I'll have to teach you some manners!" With no hesitation, Mokuro picked up his staff and threw it towards the stranger, hoping to get a rise out of the individual.

She blinks behind her mask, confusion striking her features. It was hidden behind her mask, otherwise the emotion would have never reached the surface. Was she being rude again? She was so bad at this, so bad at meeting other humans. Her level of empathy was equal to that of your typical river rock, polished smooth but completely unmoving, so it was never that much of a surprise when she inadvertently offended another person. Thankfully the thrown staff seemed more intent on getting her attention than it did in dealing any actual damage to her.

It was odd to see someone release their weapon so early in a fight, however she could analyze this situation. Perhaps the staff had a way to return to him. Perhaps he did not truly with to fight her. Perhaps he was testing her reflexes. Then again, the staff was not the weapon of a soldier. The staff was the weapon of a monk. Perhaps it was little more than a walking stick, and his true assault would come in a flash of fist and feet. Regardless, for now she had to defend herself. Overburdened by her great cloak she didn't want to attempt to sidestep, so instead she gave in to its weight. Her knees give softly, the weight pulling her body downwards even as her spear comes up. She grips it for the moment with both hands and swings it upwards hard, catching the staff just below its tip with the haft of her spear. She doesn't aim to stop it, or block it, but instead redirects its path just slightly upwards, up and above and then off behind her.

After it's passed, if there are no other surprises in store, she stands up straight once more and her spear returns to it's place beside her. She would resume staring silently again, somewhat confused, but not wanting to offend the man. After just enough time to make the moment awkward she finally speaks. Surprisingly, her voice is that of a young girl.

I'm sorry. But you really should not throw things at me. It is.. lacking in manners. she states in a voice that was loud so it would carry, but completely lacking in humor, compassion, anger, or any other emotion even remotely appropriate for the situation. Indeed, her voice is as flat as her attitude, and lacked any sense of regret that typically accompanies an apology.

A faint hint of amusement built up inside of Mokuro as the stranger in armor gripped their spear and struck Ryu Jingu. The staff flipped in the air multiple times, landing flat directly behind them. It was a curious event -- a legendary weapon being deflected by a lonely spear. Of course, there was more to the staff than met the eye. It wielded an assortment of abilities and skills that were not easily analyzed by the naked eye.

Breaking the newfound silence, a voice emerged from the steel-covered human. To Mokuro's surprise, it was the voice of a little girl. The Hyuuga smiled deftly, laughing at the strange circumstance that the stranger presented. It was obvious that the stranger was no ordinary girl. After all, who in their right mind walked around in steel armor and carried a seven foot spear around?

"Manners...? Ironic..." Mokuro took in the silence once more before making his next move. He chuckled softly and uttered his next word. "Grow," he whispered underneath his breath. Immediately, Ryu Jingu expanded into a staff fifty feet wide and twenty-five feet long. Its rapid, intense growth was in line with the direction the girl was standing in and was headed directly towards her backside. If she failed to react hastily, it would strike her with incredible force, shoving her closer towards Mokuro.

Immediately as the staff began to grow, Mokuro activated his Byakugan and moved towards the girl with incredible speed. Like a true master of his craft, he analyzed the girl's tenketsu points and aimed two strikes at the ones located in her stomach.

Grow? she finds herself saying a moment before it impacts behind her. She had no eyes in the back of her head, she did not see it coming. Such a strange ability for a staff, surely it'd have been more useful for a spear. If her spear could extend as such, she could attack from ranges she'd never imagined using it. Of course, there was time for such thoughts later.

She had failed to react hastily, but her small frame hid beneath it a body of iron toughness, and a cloak atop it as tough as steel. When it strikes her it strikes the back of her left shoulder and sends her stumbling forward only a step. No surprise registers in her voice as the staff plants against her and continues to grow, the other end extending outwards as her great weight acted as an anchor. The staff grows only a short distance back, however, before it lands against an anchor more solid than saya. A second impact strikes her as the staff roots against a tree and thrusts her forward, causing her to stumble twice this time, and almost fall forward. Finally it continues to grow past her, Saya falling down to one knee and the staff sliding up high enough to simply rest on and grow past her shoulder.

A moment later she is gone. A puff of smoke and a kick of wet grass and dirt mark her exit as she body flickers up into the lowest branches of a tree off to her left. In her great bulk she'd have a hard time hiding, so she simply stood there, and announced her presence once more.

If you are trying to pick a fight with me, I will accept your challenge. However I should know the limits of this battle. I do not know who you are, so I would not want to hurt you too greatly.. Her voice is as it was, as it always is; cold and placid, lacking in fire, amusement, or anger. She was a strange one to say the least, though that spear did look dangerous. It was no ordinary steel, but a chakra infused alloy that was almost an extension of her own body. Closer inspection reveals another weapon, a katana still sheathed and located on her left hip.

Mokuro stopped dead in his tracks as the strange girl began to move away from her initial location. It was immediately obvious that the two shinobi were on two opposite ends of the spectrum when it came to quickness and reaction time, but Mokuro didn't want to be haste in his judgement. His movements were always calculated and measured appropriately. He wasn't quite sure what the girl had to hide, if anything.

Something about the girl piqued Mokuro's interest. With his Byakugan, he was capable of exposing all things chakra related about the world. For such a small, youthful girl, her chakra signature was rather large. It was almost unheard of, actually. That's.... Odd. His eyes immediately located her new location after her usage of the Body Flicker technique and fixed themselves upon it.

The girl's words unfortunately fell on deaf ears as Mokuro was more concerned as to what could possibly be causing the intense chakra signature. "You wield a powerful chakra.... Show it to me." Mokuro entered the iconic fighting stance of the Gentle Fist users, motioning for her to make her move.

Saya was a little surprised that someone could see the chakra within her, though she truly should not have been. Closer inspection of her opponent reveals those empty white eyes, milky and from a distance appearing to simply have no iris to speak of. She'd heard about those eyes, heard about the Hyuuga. She didn't know much about them, but from what she could recall they were one of the best sensory ninja clans known to have ever existed. There was also something about not letting them touch her, but her recollection was less clear on that.

A request had been made, however, and she was not going to disappoint. She sets the spear down in front of her, it's pommel resting against the branch she stood on while the haft lands against her shoulder. There was a slight ache there, and she rolls it in a slow circle to test it's flexibility. It still seemed to be functioning, but should she remove her cloak she would have to remember to avoid that staff.

Raijin no Me.She states flatly as she works her way slowly through a series of 6 hand seals. She is in no rush, her opponent apparently wanted to see what she could do. As she completes it lightning chakra begins to build within her network and bubble to the surface near the back of her head and tops of her shoulders. The chakra drips upwards, pouring out of her and forming into two crackling, white hot spheres of raw, focused electricity. The two orbs remain where they are, floating behind and above her shoulders, reflecting the imagry of the jutsu's name. Eyes of the Lightning God.

They do not seem to do much else at first, but behind her mask Saya cracks a small smile. She did not think that anyone could see through her mask, so she is less restrained on her facial expressions, and her excitement was beginning to build as she formed her jutsu. Without warning, without hand seals or even a gesture from Saya, a pair of lightning bolts peel off of the ball to the left and spark quickly in Mokuro's direction. They move at an impressive speed(98), however at such distance and with his speed they should barely prove to even be a moment's inconvenience. When they strike the dirt or trees, however, each one impacts quite hard and scorches bark and dirt alike.

The Hyuuga's eyes tensed up, paying even closer attention to the girl as she strung several handseals together. The chakra inside of her began to boil up, a sign that a powerful jutsu was about to be utilized. It surged and circled around her small frame until it was expelled. To Mokuro's surprise, the immediate action of the jutsu was not a forward attack. Instead, two orbs of lightning rose upon the girl's shoulders. Hmm...

Before Mokuro could get comfortable, two strikes of lightning made their way towards him in a normally impressive speed. However, compared to his own, they were quite slow. Smirking, the Hyuuga fell forward and used his blistering speed to hastily make way towards the girl. Judging by her need to utilize a technique such as the Body Flicker to escape something as simple as Ryu Jingu's growth,  Mokuro deduced that she was significantly slower than he was. Probably has to do with that ridiculous get up she has on...

In breakneck speed, Mokuro appeared mere feet in front of the girl. Immediately, he spewed out an immense amount of ash and dust from his throat, covering the battlefield in a cloud impenetrable by regular eyes. Thanks to his Byakugan, the dust would not slow down Mokuro. He still saw her just as clearly as he did before.

Continuing his assault, Mokuro once again aimed two strikes at the tenketsu located in the girl's belly. No amount of armor could protect you from the Gentle Fist fighting technique and its surgical precision.

Saya was surprised by the ash, but that is not to say she was taken off guard. Denial of sight was a simple and common tactic in the world of the shinobi, one she herself utilizes when context and opportunity allowed. His speed was slightly more surprising, but it wasn't something she could not compensate for. Blinded, she falls back on old techniques to ensure her safety. The crystal lenses of her mask were her first defense, while the air supply allowed her to breath easy amid the cloud.

She was confident in her armor, it had defended her from attacks in the same way the Pangolin Cloak's namesake had protected the pangolin from larger, more powerful predators. She turns her back on her attacker and pulls her cloak closed, hugging the haft of her spear against her chest with one hand and tightening her cloak with other. The dense coating of thick steel plates and tough leather stopped swords and elements alike, but it seemed this time it would come up lacking. As the hyuuga's palm slams against her side it sprays chakra through her defenses, through her skin, and into her chakra network.

Saya does not so much say a word, so much as she draws in a hard, pained breath. She gasps, and hisses on the exhale as the pain sets in, but it does not slow her down. It was such a shame, came her first thought, that she wasted her body flicker on something so simple as relocation to a tree branch. Using it again so soon, especially in the weight she was wearing, was just too dangerous for her knees and ankles. Her flare for drama, it seemed, was the first strike against her. The second strike lands just as true as the first, and Saya accepts its momentum to help her out of the tree.

She drops from the tree as gravity would have it, lashing out blindly with her spear as she does. She may not be able to see him, but her spear covered a great range, and she fell only the 20 feet or so, Saya's able to wheel it about, twirling it in dangerous arcs at seemingly random and hard to predict angles. She lands with minor grace, a mental map telling her when she was near the ground but still not quite as perfect with her timing as she would be if she could see.

When she lands, she drops her spear and works through a rapid series of handseals. If her hands were to be trusted, Saya was much faster than she'd let on so far, and only a blink after it's begun her body is sinking rapidly below ground. Spear and armor and all she swims downwards, getting for a moment out of reach, before twisting among tree roots to safer ground. Most would not know this.. and Saya assumes most would not.. but those cursed Hyuuga eyes see all.
