Saya's entry into the area is met with an uproar of applause, though she is nothing special.  The announcers and proctors had already done enough to whip the crowd into a frenzy that they'd like cheer the janitors who clean the stage if they were prompted to do so.  She does nothing to encourage their cheer, and has done little so far to earn it.  Instead she seeks to ignore the great uproar, her shoulders falling a bit as the pressure of the crowd falls upon her.  She did not need their cheering, she did not need their support.  She was confident that her own skill would let her shine.  Even if she lost the match, so long as she put every ounce of effort into winning she would be satisfied.

She is dressed as she often is, a black and white dress hanging to her knees, a pair of soft soled shoes covering her feet.  She's a skinny girl with no bulk of muscle, but instead an athletic build of sinew and wire.  She had the grace of a practiced dancer, and all the flexibility and mobility of an acrobat.  These were the skills she had practiced, the physical prowess she had honed from an age even younger than she is now.  They had served her well up to now, but she was unsure if they would be quite enough to see her through to victory today.  The odds were certainly stacked against her.

She comes to a stop and finally lifts her head, listless blue eyes rising to sweep over the gathered crowd.  She could hear her name in the background being shouted out by the same person who had been working the crowd up.  As if on cue a small hand lifts for a moment to wave to the crowd.  She was out of her element here, the pomp and the show, the grand spectacle that drove ticket sales never sat at ease in the honorable and modest confines of her warrior's heart.  With that out of the way, however, she only had the fight to look forward to.

Saya steps into the ring, already feeling lost without her spear and her katana.  She could not even bring a simple bokken to this match, and she had spent much less time training standard taijutsu than she did practicing her Kendo.  Slowly the roar of the crowd dithers off into near silence in anticipation of the next announcement.  As quickly as the sound faded, however, it picked up once more as the announcer started to introduce her opponent for the match.  Saya payed little attention to that, and simply stood patient and still on her side of the ring, and slowly gathered her mental focus of the task that lie ahead of her.

When the Queen is Out

Desu herself that she didn't need them. Her anxiety drugs that is. She was willing to at least try going a few rounds in this tournament without resorting to the damn things. She wasn't going to overcome the cussed fear placed on her all those year ago if she didn't. She wasn't going to become better if she couldn't. A kage shouldn't be in the sorry state she was for as long as she was.

And as she walked onto the stage for her first bout, she felt the cheers of the audience fuel her. She was a favorite amongst them. No surprise there. She was as beautiful as she was powerful. Hopefully their opinion of her wouldn't change if things didn't go the way she hoped. Who was she kidding; people were fickle. She couldn't say the same about her attire, since she had opted for her standard attire. She probably should have gone for something that fitted the role more, but it was only the first round.

And as the Hyozankage took her attention away from the crowd and focused on the figure before her, she furrowed a brow. A laugh erupted from her. "Is this some kind of joke. You expect a child to pose a threat to me," she mused. In spite of her words, she didn't take the girl lightly though. She knew better than the underestimate anyone. Albeit in this instance, she needed to put on a show and remind people who she was and so a wonderful display of arrogance was needed.

"Here's what child," she began, her voice loud enough for everyone else to hear as well. "Why don't you give up now. I have no problems beating a child to a bloody pulp beyond recognition, I assure," she negotiated. Part of her knew she was only negotiate so as that she wouldn't have to deal with her anxiety though. And that same part of her knew that this girl wasn't about to back down.

Saya watches passively as her opponent takes to the ring, spending the time she has assessing her body. She had no eye for beauty, but the muscle and posture were important, the way she carried herself would show off levels of arrogance or humility, would show confidence, and even sometimes display hints as to their fighting style or preferred range. Her muscles would tell a tale of time spent in practice, time spent perfecting the shinobi arts. She already knew that most people did not take life as seriously as she did, but she looked for these hints none the less. In Desu, she seemed to find some hints. She was fit, she looked strong, but she also looked lithe and limber. They had similar builds, even if their bodies were completely different. Should her body ever finally decide to blossom into a woman's, she may well end up with similar proportions.

For now, she was simply a child, looking even younger than she was as development seemed to be leaving her behind. She didn't let it bother her, at least externally. Placid eyes continue to scrutinize her until she's in the ring, but no emotion registers in them as Desu speaks. Instead she simply stares blankly until she is finished, and then steps slightly forward. Her only response to the insults is a small bow from her waist, and the quiet muttering a few words.

May your luck and skill be equal to your honor.

Was it an insult? It was hard to tell, once she was done bowing she still has the same look of utter neutrality in her eyes. Her lips did not so much as twitch, but remained fixed in their eternal position of mild disdain and seeming disinterest. She slides a foot back some and turns her body, assuming a typical defensive stance. Saya knew she was out classed, but it did not affect her. Loss in a tournament would bring her no shame. Her left hand remains out and up ahead of her, her hand left open palmed instead of curled into a fist. Her right remains closer to her body, also open handed but resting closer to her hip. She was ready, but she was not attacking. She waited, watching and studying her opponent, still trying to locate even a single physical weakness she could exploit.
