Hoshigaki Mutagen Fish

Post by シャーク女神干柿 on Sat Feb 04, 2017 5:18 pm

Name ;; Hoshigaki Lumen
Rank ;; C
Price ;; 250 Ryo
Durability ;; 20 Durability, 40 Speed (In Water)
Description/Abilities;; When chakra is channeled into the fish, its body glows bright blue, and sends an intermittent cautionary signal to Sameonna Hoshigaki, the engineer behind its creation. Regardless of this fishes location, or the location where it is utilized as a beacon, Sameonna will always be capable of sensing it, and can pinpoint its location from any location marker in any of the Shinobi Nations. Alternatively, its owner, based on its familail tendencies and its Hoshigaki bloodline, receives a passive +10 Chakra.
Appearance ;; Hoshigaki Lumen sharks may be distinguished by their elongated, cat-like eyes and two small dorsal fins set far back. Most species are fairly small, growing no longer than 5 feet in length. Characteristics of the Lumen are mostly dark bodies, having a long anal fin that ends in front of where the lower caudal fin begins. The snouts of the members of Lumen are flat. They also present upper and lower labial furrows. The sonic hedgehog dentition expression is first found as a bilateral symmetrical pattern and is found in certain areas of the embryonic jaw. Every 18–38 days the teeth are replaced as is a common characteristic of the developmental process of these sharks. Through mutation, using the Hoshigaki bloodline as a catalyst, the Lumen is one of four elasmobranch species of Hoshigaki-oriented fish shown to possesses biofluorescent properties. An oddity that yielded contrast information on areas where fluorescence is anatomically distributed on the shark shows that is glows almost all the time. The repeated evolution of biofluorescence in Hoshigaki, coupled with a visual adaptation to detect it; and evidence that biofluorescence creates greater luminosity contrast with the surrounding background, highlights the potential importance of biofluorescence in elasmobranch behavior and the biology which is revolved around the shark.

Temperature is thought to limit the shark’s distribution in northern areas, particularly during the winter. Although bands of warm water at the edge of the shelf have been observed, the temperature varies seasonally, thus limiting this non-migratory species. The Lumen spends the daytime resting at the bottom, usually in contact with certain structures. It has been observed with large burrowing cerianthid anemone tubes and boulders. The bottom rubble is thought to be used as a camouflage with the shark’s spotted surface. Adult Lumen sharks tend to prefer rough bottoms, creating a difficulty for trawl sampling, while the immature forms are found near smoother regions. The original parent-genus to the Lumen has been known to feed on squid, bony fish, polychaetes and crustaceans, so it is presumed that despite their evolutionary traits, they still maintain the same diet. In aquaria, they are relatively motionless, only swimming occasionally. Due to the Hosigaki Lumen’s depth distribution, it has been suggested that the shark does not perform large-scale migrations.

Restriction: Must be bought from Sameonna Hoshigaki, or a character already in possession of the Hoshigaki Lumen. Additionally, if the Lumen is sold or traded off, it no longer shares a familial bond with its previous owner, instead, transferring that bond to its new owner. The familial bond benefit of +10 Chakra cannot stack with multiple Lumen being owned, but can stack with other species of Hoshigaki-oriented fish.

Name ;; Hoshigaki Oceanic Manta
Rank ;; B
Price ;; 1,200 Ryo
Durability ;; 45 Durability, 70 Speed (In Water)
Description/Abilities;; When chakra is channeled into the fish, its body glows bright blue, and sends an intermittent cautionary signal to Sameonna Hoshigaki, the engineer behind its creation. Regardless of this fishes location, or the location where it is utilized as a beacon, Sameonna will always be capable of sensing it, can always actively communicate with it and can pinpoint its location from any location marker in any of the Shinobi Nations. Alternatively, its owner, based on its familail tendencies and its Hoshigaki bloodline, receives a passive +20 Speed.
Appearance ;; There are two distinctive traits of Hoshigaki Oceanic Manta, male and female, with males being almost 23 feet in width at adulthood, whereas females are at 18 feet in width. Both genders have triangular pectoral fins, horn-shaped cephalic fins and large, forward-facing mouths, which the mutation has allowed to generate three rows of extremely tiny, yet efficient, razor-sharp teeth. When opening their mouth, similarly to sharks, their jaws and gums almost detach and extend, snapping outward toward their prey. Normally, the oceanic manta are found in temperate, subtropical and tropical waters, but openly migrate across oceans singularly and sometimes even in groups.

However, their Hoshigaki mutagen form of the Oceanic Manta only travels alone, and can only be kept apart from other Manta's, as they are extremely territorial and aggressive. Though the Manta are filter feeders and eat large quantities of zooplankton, which they swallow with their open mouths as they swim, they have no need to physically eat due to their mutated form now baring a water-based affinity, basically allowing for absolute camoflauge. Gestation lasts over a year, producing live pups. Like whales, and sharks, the Hoshigaki Oceanic Manta also breaches, adopting its sister-bloodline traits. They have horizontally flattened bodies with eyes on the sides of their heads behind the cephalic fins, and gill slits on their ventral surfaces. Their tails lack skeletal support and are shorter than their disc-like bodies, mocking the lack of skeletal support at all aside from a thin spinal conjunction. Due to this, they cannot move, at all, outside of water.

But, once in water, they are almost impossible to hit, and are extremely preemptive. Due to the mutation, the owner of the Oceanic Manta also benefits from this heightened sense of danger. As such, once per topic if the owner is completely aware of an impending strike, or is in the process of dodging, or countering an attack that they are conciously aware of, they receive an additional 20 Speed for their preemptive strike. This can only be used once per topic, and can only be launched after an opponent has already launched an attack against the owner of the Oceanic Manta.

Restriction: Must be bought from Sameonna Hoshigaki, or a character already in possession of the Hoshigaki Oceanic Manta. Additionally, if the Oceanic Manta is sold or traded off, it no longer shares a familial bond with its previous owner, instead, transferring that bond to its new owner. The familial bond benefit of +20 Speed as well as the preemptive striking bond ability cannot stack with multiple Oceanic Manta being owned, but can stack with other species of Hoshigaki-oriented fish.

Name ;; Hoshigaki Toxifish
Rank ;; A
Price ;; 2,000 Ryo
Durability ;; 60 Durability, 80 Speed (In Water)
Description/Abilities;; When chakra is channeled into the fish, its body glows bright blue, and sends an intermittent cautionary signal to Sameonna Hoshigaki, the engineer behind its creation. Regardless of this fishes location, or the location where it is utilized as a beacon, Sameonna will always be capable of sensing it, can always actively communicate with it and can pinpoint its location from any location marker in any of the Shinobi Nations. Alternatively, its owner, based on its familail tendencies and its Hoshigaki bloodline, receives a passive +15 Chakra & +15 Durability. Due to enhanced resistance to foreign chemical substances, the owner receives half damage when in contact with any type of poison. Additionally, if the poison does not do damage, and is supplemental, its effects are logically halved.
Appearance ;; The Toxifish is a mutation of a very small bluefin fish, and additionally is any of various opivarous crpyinodontiform fish. Altogether, there are 1270 different species of Toxifish, the biggest family being Rivulidae which contains more than 320 individual species. Because of living in ephermal waters, the eggs of most Toxifish can survive periods of partial dehydration. Many of the species rely on such a diapause, since the eggs would not survive more than a few weeks if entirely submerged in water. Like seeds, the eggs can be sent by mail without water. The adults of the Rivulidae species, such as Marmoratus, can additionally survive out of water for several weeks. Most of these bluefin fish are very small, from 1 to 2 inches in size, with the largest of the species growing up to 6 inches.

The majority of Toxifish are found in permanent streams, rivers and lakes, and live between two and three years. Such Toxifish are common in Hyozangakure, as the reproduction rates of these fish are overwhemingly high. However, as such, these fish do not migrate and are basically uniquely found in Hyozangakure, only. Some of their natural habitats can be rather extreme, many of them finding solace within a Devils Hole, which is a cavern at least 300 feet (91m) deep, branching out from a small opening at the surface, approximately 6 feet (1.8m) by 18 feet (5.5m) wide. Some specialized forms live in temporary ponds and flood plains, and typically have a much shorter lifespan. Such species, known as 'annuals', live no longer than nine months and are used as models for studies on aging.

A small number of species will shoal while most are territorial to varying degrees. Populations can be dense and territories can shift quickly, especially for species of the extreme shallows (a few centimetres of water). Many species exist as passive tribes in small streams where dominant males will defend a territory while allowing females and immature males to pass through the area. In the aquarium, territorial behavior is different for every grouping, and will even vary by individuals. In a large enough aquarium, most species can live in groups as long as there are more than three males. Normally, Toxifish avoid near-surface water to reduce the danger of being eaten by predators. When infected with a certain type of fluke, however, the fish swim near the surface, and sometimes even swim upside down, exposing their reflective bellies (normally camouflage for upward-looking predators, but standing out to downward-looking predators, due to the different background appearance of the top vs. bottom of the water column). The fluke completes its lifecycle in the digestive tract of birds.

Due to the genetic diversity of this species, Toxifish have been evolved by Sameonna's mutation efforts, granting the fish resistance against high levels of dioxins, PCB's, mercury and poisons, up to 8,000 times higher than the lethal dose. Sequencing the genomes of the adapted individuals shows a common set of mutations among the pollution-tolerant fish, many of which helping to deactivate or turn off a molecular pathway responsible for a large part of the cellular damagec caused by chemicals. As such, the owner of the fish also receives a passive boost of +15 Chakra/+15 Durability and receives half damage when in contact with any type of poison. Additionally, if the poison does not do damage, and is supplemental, its effects are logically halved.

Restriction: Must be bought from Sameonna Hoshigaki, or a character already in possession of the Hoshigaki Toxifish. Additionally, if the Toxifish is sold or traded off, it no longer shares a familial bond with its previous owner, instead, transferring that bond to its new owner. The familial bond benefit of +15 Chakra, +15 Durability as well as the Toxin Resistance bond ability cannot stack with multiple Toxifish being owned, but can stack with other species of Hoshigaki-oriented fish.
