Fly By Night

Post by Saya on Wed Jan 27, 2016 12:31 am

The rain was heavy once more.  It seemed to go like that when Saya was sad, or perhaps the rain just let her clear her head more.  She'd been absent from the public eye for the past week, though that was nothing new.  She was always a loner, a black sheep, self isolated from the daily humdrum of the village.  She had no real friends, though she had come close to making one.  Kenshin was an interesting fellow, a nice boy with a level head and a sweet side that allowed him to forgive strangers that ran him over.  Why she had chosen him to be the image of her clone wasn't unknown, it was the unfortunate drawback of her upbringing.

She had no friends, no loved ones, no family or hobbies.  She never socialized, she never attempted to make others around her begin to understand her.  All she ever did was train.  Herself was all she had ever had.  Herself, and her bijuu, Thunderbird.

“I understand, Saya.  I will not scold you for this choice.  There is no dishonor in what you are doing.  Your Kage will understand.  It may not have seemed it, but he was saddened by what happened.  Like you, he too blames himself.  Both of you share the blame in the boy's death.”

“I just need time..  to put this in its place.  I will never forget what I have done, doing so would dishonor Kenshin's memory.  But I can not afford to leave it hanging ever over my heart.  While I am within these walls, I can not get past this memory.  And yet, I have never been outside of them for more than a few hours.”
The voices, even her own, were only in her mind, yet in her mind they were louder than the storm around her.

“The world is large, Saya.  Dangerous.  You must be on your guard.”

A clone was already on her way to the Joki kage's office, dressed even now as Saya was.  Clad in her cloak and mask, the great dome of her hat keeping the rain off her head, and with her spear in hand.  It was how she always was, and how she would depart.

The form of the girl vanishes, though none were there to see it.  A puff of smoke conceals her momentarily, and in the blink of an eye she's already 40 meters off the ground.  She continues on from there, flying swiftly ever upwards towards the cloud.  She had merged with them before, and she needed them again.  The rain matched her so well, filled with so much turmoil, breaking with rage and yet somehow somber in spite of itself.  Rain drops fell like so many of Saya's tears, though her tears were truly more rare.  She would fix that.. she would fix herself.  She would once more regain her mind, and return like the sun after the storm was finally over.  A second clone waited, hidden in the tree she often rested in between training routines.  It was dangerous what she was doing, she had witnessed the Kage execute a sannin for leaving without permission.  Of course, she was not turning her back on Joki, she was merely taking a break, and spending some time to find herself.

One clone, the unhidden one, walks calmly, patiently, step by step making her way to Stein's office.  She could not leave without explanation, and yet she could not wait a moment longer.  The pain in her heart was like nothing else she had felt, and it simply demanded she change her scenery, explore and see the world, and free her mind from the prison it had been placed in.  The clone would enter the Jokikage building, remove her helmet, and knock three times on the Kage's door.  There was little doubt that Saya was already out of sight.  Her little hidden training grounds were her own secret, and a place so few had ever discovered.  Once in the clouds, however, she would fly away, cloaked by the peels of thunder and crackling flashes of lightning, and the thick black clouds of the storm.  Saya did not care where she was going, she was only freeing her mind.  So she went north, towards the greater land mass of the world, and all the mystery that lay ahead of her.

“My Lord Jokikage, are you here?” Calls out the clone.  It's voice was broken, but it was not quiet.  Her clones felt as she did, devistated by the accidental loss of her fellow villager.

Stein loved the rain, and today seemed like a good day to bask in it, so he was on the roof of the Jokikage building, looking straight out at the village, seeing all in his sight, as the building was strategically placed near the back of the village, so the gates, the training grounds, the village almost as a whole was in front of him for him to see, and he saw a sudden puff of smoke, and something that looked like a bullet raising up in the air, he knew only one person in his village that not only could fly, but move at that speed, he knew it to be Saya.

He would Suddenly Summon A Rashomon from the top of the kage build, raising him up an extra fifty meters, and as Saya was not far from him, he could shout out to her and she should be able to hear his call, as she at this moment was only going straight up and not yet out of the village. "SAYA, COME HERE IF YOU WILL" And Stein would wait on top of his Rashomon as he watched her and had called her to him.

The storm around her would consume most sounds, but like most shinobi Saya's ears were strong and sharp.  As the familiar voice drifts past her ears, she pauses and turns to face the large wall now atop the kage mansion.  She did not need to look closely, she knew of only one person that had ever summoned the great gates of Rashimon.  Below, a clone departs the tree it was hidden in, prepared for just this situation.  Saya simply couldn't face Stein, she could barely face herself at the moment.  Only the steel mask she was wearing covered her face and hid her shame.  The clone is fast moving, speeding towards Stein with powerful leaps and blindingly fast dashes up and over the academy walls, across the distance to the kage's roof and up his great gate.

Behind her mask, Saya was broken.  It would be her shame to be seen in such a state, and she did not wish to add shame to the dishonor of slaying her own village mate.  Lightning cracks behind her, emphasizing the blink of a moment she lingered still, even if it felt like an eternity in her heart.  The clouds above her are suddenly joined by a cloud around her, a thick blanket of summoning smoke dispersing with the wind to reveal another dozen Saya floating in the sky above.  They begin to disperse even as the first clone that saya had left on the ground below arrives atop Stein's gate.  It would be nearly impossible to tell which clone was which, the new copies having an even spread of her chakra, though the one now kneeling at Stein's feet only had a small amount left within it.

My lord Joki Kage. spoke the clone softly, lacking both armor and spear but kneeling easily in front of him.  It took every ounce of her willpower to keep herself calm, to keep herself presentable, to maintain that cold exterior of stoic indifference.  Even then she was unsuccessful, more emotion filled Saya's voice than anyone but Thunderbird had ever heard.  Above the mass was dispersing, some flying up, some flying down, some flying left and some flying right.  Saya was more anonymous, joining the seven others that were climbing skywards at different angles.  She was fleeing, for now, climbing up to the storm clouds that always brought her comfort.  Even bearing the weight of her cloak, Saya's speed was remarkable.  She was making great time, and closing the distance between her and the thunderclouds very quickly. She was already more than 100 meters above the ground. The distance between the Kage's office and the academy put just as much distance between herself and Stein.

The clone continues without missing a beat, still choking back emotion.  Thank goodness for the storm above, her her tears would have been obvious.  I apologize, but I must be permitted time to cope.  I.. I..  I ii can not.. sleep.  Can not eat.  I can not think.  All I see is the face of the boy..  of.. of.. k..  . she struggles in earnest to even say the name, but forces herself to do so.  of.. Kenshin…  Uz.. uzumaki..  Kenshin.  It is my fault he is fallen.  My fault he is dead.  I.. need to .. clear my mind.  I would have come to you for permission, but I could not risk you saying no.  ..  I.  I can not continue on.. if.. I.. I can't.  I can't continue on..  Tell me what I can do..  Tell me there is something.. some way.. some way to seek forgivness..  I.. I will turn around..  but to be within these walls.  See each day the place where I killed him..  to know..  to know that it is my fault.. because of me that he is not here.  I.. I am so sorry.  I am so sorry that I did that, that I tried to trick you, that I used the face of my comrades in an attempt.. a .. an attempt..  at vanity.. to.. to prove that I was strong..  Never before had Saya sounded so unsure, so broken, so without her honor and pride.  She was young, though, could she be expected to react any other way?

Stein would see how Saya was, even if it was just a Clone and hugged the clone and whispered in her ear "Return to your Original with this message, Please come down and talk to me, The answer will not be no, however, I would prefer we had this talk , real face to real face, please no clones, I understand the situation your in, and due to that I will allow you to go, but only after you come to my face" and with that the Rashomon gate would disappear and Stein would land on the roof of the Kage building just fine, however he did let go of the clone, hopeing it would dispell back to Saya herself.

Meanwhile, while he waited he began to figit with the dust on the roof of the building, drawing what seemed to be random symbols, This was one of Stein's Ways of coping as well as waiting, he would wait to see if Saya returned to him to finish their talk face to face, Stein hoped so deep down, he wanted to comfort her and console her, let her know it was not her fault, but that would be in the hands of Saya at this moment in time, and not his.

The clone pops even as the Rashimon is dismissed, leaving him with nothing to hold.  One by one the sky fills with small clouds as clone after clone disperses.  Saya could not disobey.  She might have been able to justify leaving without permission, but to deny a direct request like this would leave a stain on her honor she could not abide.  She does hesitate, however, lingering high in the sky, trying to steel her resolve and regain control over her emotions.

You must go, Saya.  Duty demands it, comes the voice of soft thunder in her mind, rumbling in her heart.

Her descent is slower, her body somewhat limp as finally only a single Saya remains in the sky.  It was no clone, it was the girl, and though her armor weighed her down she didn't let it speed her descent any more than she wished.  She needed time, she needed a moment to gather herself, or she would do nothing but make herself into a fool.  Stein was her general, to be seen in this state was disgraceful.

After a few long moments of slowly hovering down to the ground, her steel clad feet touch down on the surface of the kage building.  Only moments later her knees follow suit, and then her hands.  She casts her spear aside, letting it clatter as it falls safely away from both of them.  She is dead silent, unable to form words for herself, but at least she is there, dutiful and obedient. She doesn't land on the drawing Stein was busying himself with, mostly out of respect. It would be rude to disturb his work.

Stein would Stand as he saw Saya land, and he would walk over his own doodle, and then when he reached Saya he would hug and whisper to her "It was not your fault little one, Do not blame yourself, you may leave if you wish, but please consider just giving yourself sometime with me, the one who commited the act, Maybe we will even make a trip down to see his body before it is released to his family to bury? Maybe Stay a little bit to meet his little sister he had, The choice is yours however" All the while he did not let go of her, instead in all actuallity what he did when he hugged her was stirred a little of his chakra to place the same doodle he had just made a moment ago, but this time with chakra, on the center of her back, he did this to keep an eye on her and help her out later if needed.

He then let go of the hug and looked at her and nodded to her "Its okay to Cry, no one else will know, and you can put it off on the rain if you wish it" Stein showed Saya a side of him, she may not have known exsisted, his more normal side, the side that cared and was rather nice in comparission to how he usually must have seemed to her, he would stand there a moment as he awaited her to say or do something.

Saya remains mostly limp as she's pulled back on her feet and draw closer to Stein, her mind reeling some as his arms wrap about her. She was heavy with her cloak on, her mask still concealing her face even as she presses it against her kage's chest. She sniffles, her body shutters, but she still fights every tear that is building in her eyes. It was a habit built over her short life time. Her emotionless demeanor was her social armor, the only thing that stood between the fractured soul and the rest of the world around it. She had never truly been ridiculed, never taunted nor tormented her. They had so few chances, so little time near her to do anything but keep their distance.

In all her life she could not recall a hug, a tender word, a moment of comfort provided to her. Thunderbird alone had spoken kind words, had encouraged her, had pushed her to be more than the empty shell she'd been born. Now here she stood, stranger arms around her than she'd ever imagined. Her body shudders again, her voice catching in her throat before she can voice complaint. Her words were stolen before she could attempt to correct Stein's belief that it was not her fault, but in her heart she still knew better. Inside her, Thunderbird shared her turmoil, her emotions welling in her heart, flooding around the great cast iron cooking pot he was contained within.

Even his voice was lost, not in darkness but in a wave of confused emotions Saya had no practice in restraining. Blue bubbles begin to form, welling out of the pores in her skin and growing. More and more they come, white motes of static energy crackling between them as they slowly merge until they cover her fully. Beneath her cloak her tails behind to grow, one after the other forming and filling out all empty space beneath the leather and steel. They all move, even as her own arms do, curling forward and up. Her arms lift and slip gently around Stein, and only a moment after making contact suddenly squeeze him with all her strength. Then her tears come.

She breaks in that instant, all fight leaving her as sniffles and choked whimpers become sobs of pain and sorrow. No words, they simply couldn't form, instead just emotion pours forth and she clings to Stein, her body shuddering with each loud and pained gasp. She showed no signs of stopping now, a damn of pent up emotion finally breaking and letting the great flood pour forth to fully consume her. Her tails wrap around Stein, long and slender lengths of bird feather wrapping around his body and holding him closer, holding herself tighter to the first human to offer her any comfort. There were many things she wanted to say, so many words she had to correct him, to assure him it had been her own fault for wearing Kenshin's face, but for now she could do naught but cry.

Stein still placed the FTG mark of his own creation on Saya's back, however when he felt Saya return the hug, and her body heave with the crying, he just held her, even when her tails hugged him, he continued to hug her, and he would just hold her close, staying quiet, this was a moment when Saya needed a hug, not words, just knowing enough that someone cares for her well being other then herself or even her bijuu, Stein just held Saya close.

After several long minutes of simply clinging to him, Saya finally releases her grip, her tails sliding away as the choked sobs finally die down once more to sniffles. She steps back a small ways away from Stein, and shakes her head.

I could not face his family. I can hardly face myself right now. I.. I just need time. I need to get away from all I have known for all of my life, and find my way once more. Thank you, my lord Kage, you are very forgiving. Please do not shoulder the blame for his death all on your own, I assure you that it was more my fault than yours. I.. I know I will come to terms.. I am shinobi, I know well that my life will be one filled with the death of others.. My enemies by my hands, and my friends by theirs. I only hope that in the future, I will be able to avoid causing the death of my allies. It.. It does not seem to sit well with me.

She shakes her head slowly. For all her tears she still does not remove her mask, even to wipe her cheeks clean. Instead she uses it to mask her pain, as much as her face. Her cloak falls closed once more, only her tails sticking out beneath it near her feet, and lowers her head some.

I am going to go.. but I will return. I.. I don't think it will take me long. I.. I've never known anything to affect my heart so deeply, but I will come to terms with it soon. I.. just want to bring new sights into my mind, and meditate on the meaning of these feelings now within me. When I return, I will be stronger for this experience.. and prepared to once more serve Joki with all of my heart, and skill.

Stein would listen to Saya, and when she finished, he would nod and then ask her "Saya, Would you do me the favor of accepting one of my personal ANBU bodyguards as an Escort to help keep you safe till your return? Stein would in the mean time have a Hawk suddenly Appear to swoop down as he raised an arm and he took a piece of paper from it, and with a quick touch of his hand, the symbol he placed on Saya's Back Appeared, he would then send the Hawk out towards the edge of the Joki borders.

Then If Saya Said yes, Stein would Send the chakra to his ANBU tattoo and call out to one specific ninja, and his teammate, he would then give them the location he was at and then would wait and try to keep Saya there while they waited for the ANBU members to get there.

If She said no, He would send the message anyways, but mostly to one in particular, and again hug Saya once more before allowing her to depart in an attempt to keep her around long enough for him at the very least to get there.

Meanwhile the Hawk that was sent would go to the borderline where a Patrolman would find it and prepare the piece of paper for Stein, he would see Saya and if he got there in time, his ANBU, safely to the border and on the start of their quest.

Before you choose, please understand that I am able to take care of myself.  I am smart, and I am skilled.  My ability to evade detection and escape those who might wish to follow me is high.  Just watch for a moment.

Saya steps over and picks up her spear.  She leans it against her shoulder for a moment, and weaves her way through a very quick series of hand seals.  When she is done the transformation is almost instant.  Beneath her cloak the brilliance of her blue-white chakra cloak flaring as crackling sparks of lightning begin to create arcs from beneath to the bottom hem of her metal lined cloak.  She is covered fully in an aura of pure storm chakra, extending past her feet into short but sharp claws, and transforming her hands into an image of sheer horror.  Foot long blade like extensions come off of it, but do not prevent her from wrapping her right hand around the spear.

A moment later she is skyborn, moving with more speed than someone her age should ever be able to muster.  She rises upwards at a break neck pace, streaking from the top of the building high into the sky in the blink of an eye.  Only after she's gone does the cloak finally collapse, laying in a limp heap where she once stood, the flying thunder god mark easy enough to see for the man who placed it.  Reaching her back would be next to impossible with that cloak on, however she rarely ever left home without it.  She stops just over 100 meters up after only a brief moment, a crack of thunder sounding softly as lightning flashes and cracks off her body.  She is a horrifying sight to behold in her storm beast form, rippling with raw power and holding almost as much speed as the lightning and rain still filling the skies around her.
